Ecology in Costa RicaOn Thursday, June 7 the Iguanaland Company launched its first program to reforest the San Ramón region as forty students from the Piedades Sur Agricultural High School (Colegio Técnico Profesional de Piedades Sur) planted 350 native trees on and around the site of the Iguana Tranquila Art Gallery and Land Sales Office. This initial event follows the April announcement of the landmark agreement between the Iguanaland Company and the Tropical Sierra Foundation and is part of a larger joint program called Friends of the Rain Forest.

Coinciding with the start of Costa Rica’s Ecology Month (Mes del Ambiente) this event was the first joint program between the Tropical Sierra Foundation and the Iguanaland Company. The event started at 9:00 am and ran until about 2:00 pm during which time the students planted and learned more about native trees from the school and Tropical Sierra Foundation forestry experts. After the tree planting and educational segment the Foundation’s staff visited with many Iguanaland Company home site buyers to discuss participation in the Friends of the Rain Forest Program.

In cooperation with the Tropical Sierra Foundation, Friends of the Rain Forest is a unique, turn-key program created to provide Iguanaland Company home site buyers with the tools and resources needed to make their land carbon neutral. The program offers access to forestry professionals, information on native trees varieties, native trees at below-market prices, and training on the care and maintenance of the trees selected for each home site.

The Iguana Tranquila is located in the community of Río Jesús, just 15 kilometers outside San Ramón on the Interamerican Highway.
