Iguanaland Company Celebrates Ecology Month

Ecology in Costa RicaOn Thursday, June 7 the Iguanaland Company launched its first program to reforest the San Ramón region as forty students from the Piedades Sur Agricultural High School (Colegio Técnico Profesional de Piedades Sur) planted 350 native trees on and around the site of the Iguana Tranquila Art Gallery and Land Sales Office. This initial event follows the April announcement of the landmark agreement between the Iguanaland Company and the Tropical Sierra Foundation and is part of a larger joint program called Friends of the Rain Forest.

Iguanaland Company joins Tropical Sierra Foundation

In a landmark move the Iguanaland Company announced the signing of a letter of intent to work with the Tropical Sierra Foundation with the goal of reforesting the San Ramón region and becoming the first carbon neutral land developer in Costa Rica. The announcement follows a statement by Costa Rica’s Interior Minister at a recent United Nations conference on global warming in which he/she communicated Costa Rica’s commitment to become the first carbon neutral country in the world.

The historic Casa Cambronero comes back to life as the Iguana Tranquila

For many years, the roads connecting the Central Valley and the Pacific Ocean have served as a life line of Costa Rican commerce. Over that time, whether hauling tobacco by mule, coffee by oxcart, or tourists by bus, there has been one very special place where merchants and travelers could stop and rest, the Casa Cambronero. Presently, the Casa Cambronero, known by many as “Costa Rica’s original rest stop”, is being reborn as the Iguana Tranquila Art Gallery and Land Sales Office.
